Every semester Tri-C puts on a festivalish type thing called Crooked River Groove (CRG) where eight bands are booked to play live sets, while the Recording Arts department runs the live show and records each band. The whole week becomes a huge hassle for students because the teachers expect every student to be available all day for the entire week despite the fact that most students schedule...

I misspoke in my last post when I said that Jeff and Greg were the first project in my Location Recording class; They were actually the second. The first project was to survey an area around Tri-C and figure out how to approach doing a recording at that location.
The third project was similar to the second, but this time we would add spot microphones to our stereo mics to accent certain...

I took a class last semester called location recording where I learned different microphone techniques and how to properly capture live music. The class focused a lot on stereo micing and how you don’t always need to multitrack everything to get awesome recordings. I learned how to survey different locations and what potential problems to take into consideration. I really enjoyed the class...

Capstone Project
In my last post I briefly mentioned my final Capstone project and was pretty vague because I wanted to do a full post about it.
Project requirements:
Record a five song demo with an artist of my choice.
Book adequate time for recording.
Log a minimum of 90 hours of work.
Present and defend said demo in front of a panel of established audio engineers.
Keep an accurate journal documenting...

Oh, hey!
I don’t mean to get overly dramatic, but last week felt a little like the first day of the rest of my life. That doesn’t even really make sense, nor is it that accurate. I’ll explain…
I asked my sisters for new drumheads for Christmas, which I felt was a smart move considering how much I have been playing drums lately. In addition to how much I have been playing drums, I...

Chicago: Day Three
misscortneybaby:
We woke up late. It was rainy and gloomy out. Shane, Ben and I went to Bleeding Hearts Bakery. It was amazing! I had a cup of coffee and a carrot cake cupcake. Dave text messaged me and we hurried up and ate our pastries and caught the bus to Hot Doug’s.
Fuck, Chicago was so great! I miss Shane.
Chicago: Day Two
misscortneybaby:
I slept really well on Shanes couch, while he and Ben slept together in the bed. Pause. The morning was so slow. While I was getting ready the boys spent the majority of their time watching Mortal Kombat videos on YouTube.
We eventually walked to Starbucks and got some shitty coffee. After that we caught the train to the Lincoln Park Zoo. Spent some time there and I got to see...
Chicago: Day One
Sorry for all of the reblogging that follows this post. Cortney said and documented everything better than I could. DEAL WITH IT.
(P.S. My tumblarity is through the roof.)
misscortneybaby:
The ride was quick. Colin, Ben and I left in good time. There were quite a few awesome sing alongs on the way. We got to Shane’s apartment at like 1:30pm. We got CTA passes and then went to a place called...
